“The biggest barrier (to voting) isn’t valid paperwork — it’s the fact that most people experiencing homelessness don’t know that they can vote.”
Hey SKETCH community! The Canadian Federal Elections are on Monday October 21st with advance polls opening on Saturday, October 19th! If you are 18+ and a Canadian citizen, you can vote! SKETCH can help you sort out the rest. There are so many issues impacting youth that should be priorities for our government such as climate change, housing, employment and more. Voting is one way to influence this. However youth have consistently had the lowest voter turnout amongst age groups. We can do this! #VotingfromtheMargins

In order to register to vote, you’ll need 1-2 pieces of photo ID with your address on it (list of eligible ID).
No address? No worries!
You can:
- Get someone who can prove their identity and address to vouch for you at the ballot box.
- Get a Letter of Confirmation of Residence from SKETCH or any other agency you’ve frequented for services over the past five weeks or more.
SKETCH will be sharing information online and in our studios about how to vote, where to vote, parties, candidates and much more over the coming weeks!
Stay tuned. Come and visit us at our studios at 180 Shaw Street on Tuesdays from 1-8PM, Wednesdays 4:30-8PM and Thursdays 1-4:30PM!
Here’s a good primer on voting in the meantime from CBC.
